Since the Vanderbilt game was canceled after the Commodores didn’t have enough available players this week to travel to Athens, Georgia has been working to find a new opponent.

Speaking on 680 The Fan, Georgia coach Kirby Smart said the program is still working to get a game on the schedule to finish out the season, especially the final home game for the senior class.

“Not yet, we’re working, but it’s one of those things, a lot’s out of our control, and very little we can do about it and I know Dawg Nation is disappointed and I know our seniors are terribly disappointed,” Smart said. “Not a lot we can do right now but focus on the next day and the next minute.”

There have been multiple SEC and non-conference opponents mentioned for the opening, but a lot of that, especially in the conference, depends on availability of opponents and thin roster numbers. Possible opponents floated have been Ole Miss, LSU, Colorado State, Colorado and Troy. Troy had its game with Louisiana-Monroe canceled, but it has a connection with the Georgia coaching staff.

Troy head coach Chip Lindsey was the offensive coordinator at Southern Miss from 2014-15 under current Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken.
