Right now, No. 5 Texas A&M (7-1) is on the outside looking in when it comes to the College Football Playoff. However, ESPN personality Paul Finebaum believes there’s one scenario that could help the Aggies slide into the CFP.

Finebaum explained on Thursday’s edition of ESPN’s Get Up! that if Notre Dame defeated Clemson in the ACC title game, Texas A&M could take the place of the Tigers.

“What happens is I believe (fifth-ranked) Texas A&M would get in, but it’s not certain,” Finebaum said via 247Sports. “Because you have Texas A&M, you have Cincinnati who has already been dissed by the (College Football Playoff) committee. And then you have the wildest of wild cards — Iowa State — assuming that Iowa State beats Oklahoma for the second time. Don’t forget (sixth-ranked) Iowa State is way up there in the rankings even though they lost at home a million weeks ago to Louisiana by only 17 points. If Iowa State were to get in there over Texas A&M, it’s the end of the world as we know it.”

As it stands, the CFP field consists of Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson, and Ohio State. Ohio State is ahead of Texas A&M despite only playing in five games this season due to COVID-19 cancellations. The B1G altered its rules to allow Ohio State to participate in the conference’s title game.

Texas A&M’s game last week vs. Ole Miss was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns. Texas A&M ends its regular season this weekend at Tennessee.
