South Carolina is going bowling.

The SEC announced that South Carolina has been selected to play in the Gasparilla Bowl. The SEC announcement states it will be against a Conference USA opponent. College football insider Brett McMurphy of Stadium reports, per sources, that the Gamecocks will play UAB.

The Gamecocks finished the 2020 regular season on a three-game losing skid under interim head coach Mike Bobo. Under normal circumstances, South Carolina would not be going to a bowl game with a 2-8 record. The NCAA, however, waived all bowl eligibility requirements for the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

South Carolina has hired Shane Beamer as its new full-time head coach, but Bobo will be the head coach on Dec. 26 for the game in Tampa at Raymond James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It is set to air at noon ET on ABC.

The Gamecocks have a chance to snap a six-game losing streak, but it won’t come easy. UAB is 6-3 after its Conference USA championship win over Marshall on Friday.

UAB and South Carolina have met three times before, with the Gamecocks winning all three times.

South Carolina’s last postseason appearance was in the 2018 Belk Bowl. Will Muschamp’s squad lost to Virginia 28-0.
