Texas A&M reached into Baton Rouge, Louisiana to land a 4-star safety and beat out a host of other programs. Jardin Gilbert, a University Lab product picked the Aggies over his other finalists including LSU, Mississippi State, Alabama and Oklahoma.

Gilbert made his his commitment announcement to the Aggies during an All-American Bowl declaration special on Saturday afternoon. He is ranked the No. 19 safety in the country, and the No. 10 player in the state of Louisiana, according to the 247Sports Composite. The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder had a reported 27 offers.

“Jimbo Fisher is just a funny guy,” his father Willie told 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong. “He’s got an accent like he’s from Alabama or the deep woods of Mississippi somewhere. Talking to the assistant coaches they’re pressing and made it know they want Jardin and again he’s a priority. The offense there is clicking on all cylinders but to get over that hump they need to get defensive backs and the way college football is being played now they want a kid that can cover all areas of the field and they acknowledge Jardin is one of those kids. They let him know that’s where he needs to be and they’d like to have him. I enjoy talking to them too.”

Gilbert gives the Aggies 22 signees or commitments in the 2021 class, which is ranked No. 4 in the SEC, and No. 7 in the country.
