Former Ohio State star Eddie George was among those who were impressed with Justin Fields’ performance in the Sugar Bowl win over Clemson, including bouncing back from big hits.

If Ohio State, and Fields, can replicate that performance again on Monday in Miami, the Buckeyes could win the national championship. George shared those thoughts on a recent appearance on The Midday 180 podcast.

“Kudos to Justin Fields,” George said, per 247Sports. “Just the way that he came back from the injury to the ribs — I thought for sure that it would affect his game thereafter. I thought short passes, run game, hold on. But they remained very aggressive in their play-calling. He was still able to throw the ball deep. I don’t know where his health is now, but that version of Ohio State — I don’t see anyone in the nation that can play with them, including Alabama.”

It was Fields who went 22 of 28 for 385 yards, and largely outplayed Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence. He set a Sugar Bowl record with six TD passes and did it playing more than half the game after taking a tremendous shot in the midsection from a Clemson linebacker that forced him to miss a play and spend time in the medical tent.

The national championship is scheduled for for 8 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. It will be the first time that Ohio State and Alabama have met since the 2014 College Football Playoff semifinals.
