Steve Spurrier expects Urban Meyer to return to the Sunshine State.

Spurrier recently appeared on Orlando Sentinel columnist Mike Bianchi’s radio show. When the topic of Meyer being linked to the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching job was brought up, Spurrier shared that he expects his former rival to give the NFL a try.

“Yeah, I think he’s a little bit bored and he loves coaching … he’s been out two years now and he’s been getting the itch to come back and coach,” Spurrier said. “I think (the Jaguars owner) will name (Meyer) their coach. I think they’ve got a chance there with a lot of draft picks and all that stuff. He’s obviously an excellent coach. I think he will take it here within the next few days, just what we all hear. I think he’ll do well. I don’t know if he’ll be there 10 years, but I’ll give him five. Maybe he can win a Super Bowl within five years.”

The two former Florida head coaches have become friends since facing off in the SEC East from 2005-10. If Meyer wants some advice on trying the NFL after a successful college career, he could ask Spurrier, who coached in Washington for the 2002 and ’03 seasons. Meyer has been out of coaching after stepping down from Ohio State following the 2018 season.
