LSU continues to add experience to its coaching staff, and this time it’s at the analyst level for a former FCS defensive coordinator.

FootballScoop reported that LSU is hiring Wofford defensive coordinator Sam Siefkes to a lead analyst role for its defense. This came after a longer-than-expected search for a defensive coordinator that ended with the hire of Daronte Jones from the Minnesota Vikings. Coach Ed Orgeron also hired Miami’s Blake Baker to complete his on-field staff.

As FootballScoop noted, Siefkes has worked under noted defensive mind Josh Conklin at both Wofford and Florida International. He’s expected to assist in game-planning and film studies.

Siefkes previously coached at Wisconsin-Platteville and later was a graduate assistant defensive coach under Dave Aranda at Wisconsin.

Siefkes has experience in strength and conditioning with the Air Force Academy, and earned degrees from Wisconsin-La Crosse and Wisconsin-Madison.

The Terriers defense helped Wofford to a pair of Southern Conference titles and playoff appearances. In 2019, the Terrier defense was ranked 20th in the nation in total defense.

Wofford for the upcoming season had four players make the first or second-team All-SoCon, including defensive lineman Micheal Mason, who had 40 total tackles and led the team with 10.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks. Mason was named to the All-Southern Conference second team, along with the All-Freshman Team this past season.
