South Carolina’s Andrew Eyster delivered a hit he won’t soon forget as the Gamecocks pulled off a walk-off victory over Clemson on Saturday in Greenville.

Eyster’s shot to right-center field in the 11th inning propelled the undefeated Gamecocks to another victory, this time 3-2. Eyster took a one-out 1-2 pitch with runners on second and third and knocked off South Carolina’s arch-rival Clemson.

The hit doubled home Brady Allen as the Gamecocks improved their record to 5-0 heading into tomorrow’s game at Founders Park.

Before the late-game heroics, it was a strikeout-fest. The two teams combined for 37 strikeouts in the 11-inning game. South Carolina struck out 21 times, which set a school record from the 2011 College World Series game against Virginia.

Allen, David Mendham and Jeff Heinrich had three hits apiece while Eyster had two hits.

After the game, South Carolina coach Mark Kingston told reporters, “Baseball is back in South Carolina, great game, crowd was loud, they found a way to win. … Eyster with a great at bat, got a lot on that game winning hit.”
