South Carolina was down to its final strike trailing Florida 8-7 but the Gamecocks had one more rally in them. Thanks to heroics from Andrew Eyster, Jeff Heinrich and Colin Burgess, South Carolina came away with a 9-8 walk-off win in 14 innings.

In a game that lasted over five hours, the Gators and Gamecocks were locked at 7-7 from the bottom of the eighth inning forward after a Braylen Wimmer homer. In the top of the 14th inning, Florida’s Nathan Hickey launched a solo homer to dead center, putting the Gators ahead.

UF looked to be on to way to victory, recording two outs in the bottom half of the inning. Eyster, however, had other plans. Down to his last strike, Eyster hit a home run to right field, tying it up at 8-8.

The Gamecocks weren’t satisfied with just tying the game. Heinrich singled up the middle on a 1-1 count. On the next pitch, No. 493 of the game, Burgess doubled to walk things off in Columbia.

Game 2 of the series is set for 4 p.m. ET Saturday, streaming on SEC Network+.
