As the DeVonta Smith versus Ja’Marr Chase debate heats up in NFL Draft circles, the question about which school is the WRU comes into focus.

But a former NFL star has already weighed in on the topic. Shannon Sharpe believes Alabama is “currently” the WRU. Sharpe laid out Julio Jones, Amari Cooper, Calvin Ridley, Jerry Jeudy, and soon-to-be NFL draftees Smith and Jaylen Waddle to explain his point of view.

A host of programs have claimed the title over the years, including the likes of Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Miami, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Penn State, Southern Cal, Michigan, South Carolina and Florida State.

In fact, LSUs argument begins with the success of Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Russell Shepard, DJ Chark Jr., and Justin Jefferson.

The great part about debates like these is they often escalate into a comparison of college production versus what each player, or the collective alumni, did in the NFL. Almost every one of the SEC schools above have had a wide receiver be one of the best in the NFL for a time, from A.J. Green to Alshon Jeffery and Percy Harvin.
