KJ Costello is getting an NFL training camp opportunity.

The former Mississippi State quarterback has been signed by the Los Angeles Chargers. He will be the fourth training camp for the Chargers, who also have Justin Herbert, Chase Daniel and Easton Stick.

Costello appeared in six games with five starts for Mike Leach’s squad in 2020. He was 134-of-209 passing, throwing for 1,283 yards, 6 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Costello started the season with a bang, throwing for 623 yards and 5 TDs in the opener at LSU.

Costello will be returning to his home state. Out of Rancho Santa Margarita, California, Costello played three years at Stanford before transferring to Mississippi State. Costello’s most productive season as a sophomore in 2018, when he helped lead the team to a 9-4 record and a bowl victory. In 13 starts that season, Costello threw for 3,540 yards and 29 touchdowns for a conference-best 155.0 efficiency rating.
