With the offseason hype that has gathered around Georgia, some have wondered if this season is national championship or bust at Georgia.

Many media outlets have predicted the Bulldogs to at least win the SEC East, if not the SEC Championship, and be a serious national title contender. QB JT Daniels’ play at the end of last season has led others to believe that coach Kirby Smart finally has a quarterback after last season’s carousel.

SEC Network host Paul Finebaum weighed in on the issue during a recent segment with McElroy & Cubelic In the Morning on WJOX in Birmingham, Alabama.

“I definitely think they can win the national championship,” Finebaum said. “I don’t view it as Armageddon if they don’t because the program is on such good ground. They’ll catch a lot of flack if they don’t win it, and I think it depends on how they don’t do it, if that is the case, Cole. But I’m a big believer in Kirby Smart and whether he wins it this year, he will win one, and I think this program, really outside of Alabama, is in the strongest shape for the future as any in the SEC.”

Georgia opens the season on Sept. 4 against Clemson in Charlotte.
