Ed Orgeron is still adjusting to the news that LSU will be without pass rusher Andre Anthony for the rest of the season because of a serious knee injury. But the Tigers are moving forward with adjustments.

Orgeron made his regular Tuesday morning appearance on ESPN Baton Rouge’s “Off the Bench” and discussed Anthony and the changes.

“First of all, let me say something about Andre Anthony,” Orgeron said. “He’s been here with me since the beginning. He’s been very instrumental in helping us build a championship program. He’s a great young man, great leader for us, and we’re going to miss him sorely.”

Ali Gaye and Maason Smith, who will move out to defensive end, and B.J. Ojulari are among those in the rotation, he said, and added that LSU would find out which one would play left and right the best. Orgeron explained how Smith’s transition to the edge will go.

“I think he’s a prototypical left end in the NFL,” Orgeron said. “Most NFL teams are right-handed, that’s where they’re going to run the football, that’s where the tight end is going to be. I think he’s just what you’re looking for, he’s big, he’s agile, he plays on the tight end, can handle the tight end. Can handle double teams and has enough athletic ability for him to play on the edge. Playing inside was good for him, but he’s so tall, taking on those double teams was a little tough for him.”

As for the interior players, Orgeron said they played their best game on Saturday against Central Michigan.
