After South Carolina went 0-for-3 on fourth down conversions Saturday night in a loss to Kentucky, coach Shane Beamer reviewed his decisions and on Sunday night, he stood by them.

At issue were a couple of fourth down decisions that he alternated between going for the conversion, and kicking a field goal. For example, Parker White hit a 54-yard field goal with 3:00 remaining, which ended up being the final points of the 16-10 game. Earlier, on fourth down and 3 from the Kentucky 40-yard line, Beamer elected to go for it, and Luke Doty’s pass to Dakereon Joyner fell incomplete with 9:43 remaining.

“Looking back at the decision making I made last night, I would do the exact same thing again,” Beamer said. “We had manageable down and distances (4th down plays). We had two good play calls, but we just didn’t get it done.”

Beamer added that the situations were manageable down and distance, and he liked the play calls.

Are there drastic changes in store for schemes, personnel, do you maybe have to help with play-calling?

“None of that,” Beamer said. “We got good coaches, and we got good players. We just got to execute better.”
