Greg McElroy claims he doesn’t have inside information, but the ESPN analyst and WJOX co-host predicted who will start at quarterback for Auburn this week, and then explained why.

Speaking with co-host Cole Cubelic and ESPN/SEC Network play-by-play voice Tom Hart on “McElroy and Cubelic In the morning” on WJOX, McElroy made a call on the starting QB this week between Bo Nix and TJ Finley.

“My bet would be Bo Nix,” McElroy said. “I don’t know that. I don’t have any insider information, but I would be surprised if anyone other than Bo (starts).”

Hart said if it’s Finley, who took over last week against Georgia State and helped Auburn to victory, he would have started throughout the week at practice, and everyone would know it.

“What message does this send to the rest of the team, and what affect does it have on team chemistry, even if it’s not specific to Auburn,” Hart said. “I think when you make a change like that, that ripple goes through every meeting room at the facility.”

McElroy added that it puts everyone on notice, and he recalled that Auburn did not have Tank Bigsby on the field at the end of the game in favor of Jarquez Hunter.

“I think if they make that move now, it’s going to be eye opening for a lot of guys,” McElroy said. “Because they’re going to say, this guy’s played 3 years, a fairly productive player, not a super elite player right now at this point, but fairly productive and he just got sat down on the pine pony. That could happen to me, too, if I don’t pick it up. … There’s been some guys that have been put on notice the last couple weeks with their performance.”
