Lane Kiffin could lead Ole Miss to a huge upset win on Saturday. If he does, could he draw the attention of a particular Power 5 program seeking a new head coach? One that just so happens to be his former employer?

It all seems like a wild possibility, but it’s one that Keyshawn Johnson thinks is true. The former USC wide receiver believes that Kiffin could put himself near the top of the list for the Trojans’ head-coach opening if he leads Ole Miss to victory at Alabama on Saturday.

Johnson, a former NFL receiver and current ESPN analyst, shared those thoughts on “Keyshawn, JWill & Max” on Thursday.

“It’s to a point where he wins this football game, he becomes one of the front-runners, in my opinion, to get rehired at USC,” Johnson said on the show. “And none of us would have a problem rehiring Lane Kiffin at USC even though he got fired on the tarmac. Because he was doing a hell of a job, minus the scholarships.”

Kiffin coached USC from 2010-13, leading the Trojans to a 28-15 record during that time. He famously got fired at the airport after the team returned from a 62-41 loss at Arizona State on Sept. 28, 2013.

Since then, Kiffin has put himself back on the map. He had a stint as Alabama’s offensive coordinator from 2014-16, led Florida Atlantic to success from 2017-19 and is now in his second season at Ole Miss. The Rebels went 5-5 last year and are off to a 3-0 start in 2021.

Ole Miss, which is ranked No. 12, is going to face a big challenge in trying to knock off No. 1 Alabama on the road. But there’s a chance the Rebels can pull it off. Then, it will be interesting to see if Johnson is right and whether it impacts Kiffin’s future.

Ole Miss and Alabama are set to kick off on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
