Georgia’s defense is dominating opponents in historic fashion to open the 2021 season.

With a 37-0 win over Arkansas on Saturday afternoon, the Bulldogs improved to 5-0 in their impressive start to the year. Over that span, they’ve allowed only 23 total points, a stretch that includes back-to-back shutouts against Vanderbilt and Arkansas the past 2 weeks.

According to ESPN Stats & Info, Georgia’s 23 points allowed are its fewest through the first 5 games of a season since 1937, when the Bulldogs gave up only 14 points during a 4-1 start. The 1937 team had 3 shutouts during that stretch, which came against Oglethorpe, Clemson and Mercer.

This year, Georgia has allowed 3 points to Clemson, 7 points to UAB and 13 points to South Carolina.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs held the Razorbacks to 162 yards and 9 first downs. The Hogs were shut down so much that they only had the ball for 23 minutes and 18 seconds.

If Georgia can do that against a team ranked No. 8 in the country, it may not slow down anytime soon.

The Bulldogs will look to keep dominating on defense next week when they go on the road to face Auburn in another matchup against an SEC West opponent.
