Despite LSU’s struggles at times this season, there have been some bright spots this season and one of them is the emergence of Damone Clark at linebacker.

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron explained on the show “Off the Bench” on ESPN Baton Rouge how Clark has developed as a leader for this team.

“Yeah, I’ll give you an example, Damone Clark,” Orgeron said. “I praised him yesterday, and he said, ‘Yeah, you know coach, there’s still some things I need to get better at.’ But one of the things with Damone Clark, I wanted to move him to outside linebacker. He said, ‘Coach I want to play stack linebacker.’ That was two years ago, I had a meeting with him and his parents, he said, ‘What do I need to improve on?’ I said you need to improve on your open-field tackling, and you need to improve on your pass coverage, and he’s done that. If you look at that film, he’s made some tremendous plays. He’s running the ball down, playing with great effort. So guys like that are playing with pride. … Guys are hungry and want to play well.”

Clark’s performance this season has helped the Tigers become a better defense this year.
