Kirby Smart understands that while Georgia’s defense may get more headlines this week, the Florida defense offers plenty to prepare for ahead of Saturday in Jacksonville.

“Fast, they’ve got really good players on the edge,” Smart said on the SEC coaches media teleconference. “They’ve got an abundance of guys with size. … They’ve always had great pass rushers … guys who can make plays on the edge. … They’re very disruptive with what they do.”

The offense is a bit more familiar to Smart because he has a long history with it going back to his days in the SEC West preparing for Dan Mullen and company as an Alabama assistant.

“It goes all the way back to the years at Mississippi State,” Smart said. “You felt like there was so much to prepare for, this encyclopedia of offense. … He has a lot of different packages and you don’t know which ones you’re going to get.”

Asked about his star defensive tackle, Jordan Davis, Smart offered his evaluation of his play this season.

“He’s having a good season,” Smart said. “He’s had some games where we’ve had some leads, so he hasn’t gotten the production he’d like. … He hasn’t played a ton of snaps because of some of the games we’ve had. He’s a tough guy on the run, he’s tough to move and his fast for his size.”
