Tennessee’s bowl game destination and opponent is reportedly set.

The Volunteers are heading to the Music City Bowl to face Big Ten program Purdue, according to Action Network’s and college football insider Brett McMurphy.

“Tennessee vs. Purdue in Music City Bowl, sources told Action Network,” McMurphy wrote on Twitter.

Purdue won 8 games during the 2021 season, and most notably, the Boilermakers upset No. 2 Iowa in October 24-7. It also upset the then-No. 3 ranked Michigan State Spartans. So, the Boilermakers are more than capable of beating really good teams, and this is an interesting matchup for the Volunteers.

Tennessee first-year head coach Josh Heupel has given the program something to believe in after finishing 7-5 during the 2021 season.

Quarterback Hendon Hooker has had a fabulous season on Rocky Top, throwing for 2,567 yards and 26 touchdowns. Hooker didn’t even start the season either, as Joe Milton was tabbed the Week 1 starter.

For Purdue, quarterback Aidan O’Connell threw for 3,178 yards and 23 touchdowns. Purdue’s biggest star player is wide receiver David Bell. The talented pass catcher hauled in 93 catches for 1,286 yards and 6 touchdowns.

The Music City Bowl is scheduled for December 30, 2021, for 3 p.m. ET.
