Mike Leach will no doubt unleash a slew of one-liners in his reunion with Texas Tech in the Liberty Bowl.

Mississippi State will meet Texas Tech in Memphis, according to a report from Brett McMurphy of The Action Network. Leach coached the Red Raiders from 2000-09 and went 84-43.

The Red Raiders about a month ago named Baylor assistant and longtime Texas high school coach Joey McGuire as its next head coach. Texas Tech finished 6-6 and 3-6 in the Big 12. The Red Raiders lost their last 2 games of the regular season to Oklahoma State and Baylor.

The Red Raiders are in even more flux than a typical program going through a coaching change.

Texas Tech Athletics Director Kirby Hocutt has said that Sonny Cumbie will return to his duties as interim head coach for the Red Raiders’ upcoming bowl game. Cumbie was recently named the new head coach at Louisiana Tech.

The Bulldogs are looking to get back on track after the Egg Bowl loss meant they finished the regular season 7-5 and 4-4.

The Liberty Bowl is scheduled to kick off at 5:45 p.m. on Dec. 28 from the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. The Bulldogs have already played one game there this season, a loss to Memphis.
