JT Daniels is expected to remove himself from the suddenly crowded Georgia quarterback room and enter the transfer portal, according to a report from Mike Griffith of the AJC’s Dawg Nation.

Daniels, who started the season as Georgia’s starting quarterback, missed time because of oblique and lat injuries, and then watched the Georgia coaching staff stick with Stetson Bennett down the stretch. Even after Daniels recovered from the injuries and resumed practicing, Bennett kept the starting job and ultimately led Georgia to win the national championship.

Bennett has made comments that seem to indicate his interest in returning, ahead of law school. But Georgia also has Carson Beck and 5-star freshman Brock Vandagriff on the roster and added Gunner Stockton as the latest elite in-state quarterback. The Dawgs also are in the mix for transfer Caleb Williams.

As Griffith noted, “Daniels looks to be the first domino to fall — but likely not the last — in the Bulldogs’ annual quarterback room shuffle.”

Daniels was Georgia’s starter for 3 games, and played in 6 games overall.

The Southern Cal transfer who passed on the NFL to return last season after he missed the first portion of the season while recovering from a knee injury is on the move again. Daniels led Georgia to 4 straight wins to close the 2020 campaign after he missed the first 6 games of the season. He had the highest quarterback rating in the nation over those 4 games among the returning quarterbacks, and was an outside mention as a Heisman Trophy candidate.
