Alabama walk-on quarterback Braxton Barker, who entered the NCAA transfer portal last month as a player, will instead join the Tide’s staff this season as an offensive graduate assistant.

Barker, who is the son of radio host and former Alabama quarterback Jay Barker, made the announcement on Thursday on Instagram. Barker followed former LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger who joined the staff as an analyst.

“Fired up to be joining the Alabama coaching staff as a graduate assistant! So grateful for being able to fulfill my dream of wearing the crimson and white, and I’m excited to see what the future holds as I start my coaching career! #rolltide”

Barker’s 4-year career as a player at Alabama has come to an end after he spent the past 4 seasons as a player at Alabama. Barker saw very limited action until November’s win over New Mexico State, when he completed one pass for 10 yards.

Alabama saw 3 quarterbacks enter the transfer portal after the national championship, as Paul Tyson transferred to Arizona State, walk-on Stone Hollenbach transferred to Western Michigan. Alabama returns Bryce Young and sophomore Jalen Milroe in 2022, along with incoming freshman Ty Simpson.
