Florida QB Anthony Richardson is turning heads and being compared to NFL standout Cam Newton.

Ahead of the Florida-Utah game Saturday, Sept. 3, Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham made some highly regarded remarks on Richardson. The comparisons to Cam Newton came in full swing for the sophomore QB.

One notable similarity between the two is that Newton started his career at Florida before transferring to Blinn Community College and then later to Auburn.

During a media interview on Monday, Whittingham could not stop adding praise for the young quarterback (via On3 Sports):

“You have to account for the QB in the run game every single down. The guy reportedly has 4.3 speed. At that size, it’s incredible. It’s Cam Newton-ish type of numbers with his physical stature and his ability to run,” Whittingham said. “That’s something that the defensive staff is well aware of and that’s gotta be taken into account in virtually everything you do.”

The confidence from the opposing team’s coach adds more to the hype around Anthony Richardson. The Gators will open up the season at home against Utah this Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
