The Chicago Bears will be without former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood for the foreseeable future.

Leatherwood, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, is being placed on the non-football/illness list due to what he believes is a case of mononucleosis.

Leatherwood, a backup for the Bears, will be out for some time – including games against the Packers, Texans, Giants, and Vikings, at least. Head coach Matt Eberflus doesn’t seem too concerned.

“We feel great about where he is and him coming back,” Eberflus said, via Rapoport.

Leatherwood was taken out of Alabama with the 17th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders cut him before the start of the 2022 season after he fell down the depth chart at tackle. Leatherwood won the Outland Trophy, which is given to college football’s best interior lineman, in 2020 with the Crimson Tide.
