Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M bounced back Saturday with a 17-9 win over Miami. It’s wasn’t a pretty victory, but pretty rarely wins over ranked teams.

The important thing is the Aggies got back into the win column after suffering the shocking upset loss to Appalachian State last Saturday.

Quarterback Max Johnson finished 10-of-20 for 140 yards and 1 touchdown during his first start. Devon Achane combined for 130 yards and 1 touchdown. Still, A&M’s offense just managed to surpass 260 yards of total offense.

Texas A&M’s defense was very good once again. Despite 4 red zone trips, Miami could manage just 3 field goals.

After the bounce-back win over Miami, Fisher spoke to ESPN about the win.

On QB Max Johnson’s play …

“I thought he did a really nice job. He led the team and played with poise. He didn’t try to take things that weren’t there. Made some plays that were there. We’ve got to get a lot better, but he led us to victory. Our defense played outstanding.”

On Devon Achane’s play …

“He’s just an unbelievable athlete who can catch and can run. He’s a very diverse guy. Ainias (Smith) played very good. We have a lot of those guys like that. We’ve just go to do a better job.”

On lack of defensive backs vs. Miami and suspensions …

“We’ve go to do things right no matter the circumstances are. We’ve got to get everybody on the same page. Sometimes mistakes are made, and we’ll grow. That’s what kids do. Our team showed a lot of heart and a lot of guts today.
