The NBA announced on Tuesday that it has fined Minnesota Timberwolves guard and former Georgia star Anthony Edwards $40,000 for “using offensive and derogatory language on social media.”

The 21-year-old Edwards was in the headlines for the wrong reason earlier this month when he posted a video of himself using homophobic slurs.

Edwards has taken responsibility for his actions, saying his recent actions were inappropriate. He issued a public apology after his controversial video clip went viral.

Edwards was a second-team All-SEC selection in 2020 and was named the SEC Rookie of the Year that season. He declared for the NBA Draft after his 1 season in Athens and was the No. 1 overall pick in the draft by the Timberwolves.

Edwards finished 2nd in Rookie of the Year voting in 2021 and was named to the NBA’s All-Rookie First Team.
