Tennessee football defensive starter Jaylen McCollough was arrested on Sunday, per multiple reports citing the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. McCollough was charged with aggravated felony assault.

McCollough is a 4-year starter and currently tied for fourth best on the team with 23 tackles in 2022.

According to the arrest warrant, police responded to an incident on 2030 Grand Ave. at 3:28 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. They found a man, Zion Spencer, with missing teeth and a bloody mouth who said he’d been drinking with friends at the apartment complex when he went to retrieve some items from his vehicle. Spencer then went to return to the apartment, and he accidentally went to the wrong building. He entered through the apartment when nobody answered the door after he knocked.

Spencer then apologized and left, according to the arrest warrant. Another man, McCollough, pursued Spencer and became increasingly aggressive even after apologizing again. The man then punched Spencer in the face, and he fell backwards unconscious down the stairs.

Police then spoke to McCollough’s girlfriend, who called the football player back to the scene. McCollough arrived on the scene with a bloody bandage on his right hand and was taken into custody.

Tennessee returned home from a blowout victory over LSU 40-13. Alabama travels to Tennessee Saturday for a huge SEC matchup.
