Josh Primo has been waived in a stunning move by the San Antonio Spurs. The team announced on Friday that it is parting ways with the former Alabama standout four games into the season.

Spurs CEO RC Burford issued a brief and cryptic statement through the team’s website.

“It is our hope that, in the long run, this decision will serve the best interest of both the organization and Joshua,” said Spurs Sports & Entertainment CEO RC Buford.

The Spurs added a collective statement reiterating their silence on the matter:

“The Spurs organization, including front office executives, coaching staff and players, will have no additional comments to share at this time.”

The Spurs picked Primo with the No. 12 overall selection in the 2021 NBA Draft. Primo split time between the Spurs and their G-League team in Austin.

The 6-foot-4 Canadian spent one season (2020-21) in Tuscaloosa and was selected to the SEC All-Freshman Team. Primo averaged 8.1 points and 3.4 rebounds.

During his rookie season with the Spurs, Primo averaged 5.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists. This season, Primo was averaging 7.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.
