Does anyone have higher Playoff implications right now than Georgia? Not according to Heather Dinich.

The ESPN College Football Playoff reporter said during an interview on ESPN Radio’s “Keyshawn, JWill and Max” that the Bulldogs could be playing for their right to make the CFP this Saturday against top-ranked Tennessee. The expectation is that the winner of this game will advance to the SEC Championship as the representative for the SEC East.

“[They’d be in] a heap of trouble,” Dinich said. “If they don’t beat Tennessee, to me, they don’t get into the College Football Playoff. They won’t win their division, the selection committee has a protocol it must follow if you’re not a conference champion. We’ve seen a team that doesn’t win its division get in before, that was Alabama (2017 season), but Georgia’s opponents right now, if you take out the Oregon win, are combined 22-26.”

A win for the Bulldogs at home would go far in terms of strength of schedule as the Vols are currently ranked No. 1 in the polls. So long as Oregon continues to handle business in the Pac-12, the 49-3 win in Atlanta continues to bode well in Georgia’s favor.

Unlike Georgia, a loss in Athens isn’t a death sentence for Tennessee. Currently, the Vols have 5 top-25 ranked wins on the season, the most among FBS schools. In a similar fashion to the 2017 Crimson Tide roster, should the SEC West representative defeat Georgia in the title game, Tennessee’s strength of schedule could push it into the final spot.

The Vols and Bulldogs will kick off at Samford Stadium this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. E.T. The game will be nationally televised on CBS.
