John Calipari and Kentucky lost a double overtime game to Michigan State on Tuesday night in Indianapolis, 86-77, at the Champions Classic.

Oscar Tshiebwe fouled out in a game when he returned from being out following a knee procedure, but still played 34 minutes and collected 22 points and 18 rebounds. The Spartans edged the Wildcats in free throw percentage, hitting 85.2% compared to UK’s 66.7%.

After the game, Calipari lamented the late-game issues as the Spartans executed better down the stretch.

“When you talk about late-game situations, that’s on me as a coach. Let’s figure this out,” Calipari said, per Kyle Tucker of The Athletic.

UK players have missed time recently because of a funeral and injuries, so there hasn’t been consistent practice time. Calipari shared his message to Michigan State coach Tom Izzo.

“You were more prepared to finish a game off than we were,” Calipari said. “We just haven’t practiced together. Some of the late-game stuff … we’ve had 3 guys out that you expect to play.”
