Auburn continues to have roster turnover given the coaching change, and the latest came in the form of quarterback Zach Calzada.

Calzada is headed to the transfer portal, according to On3 Sports.

Calzada lost a competition with TJ Finley for the starting QB job, and about 2 months ago it was reported that Calzada would need season-ending shoulder surgery. He missed the rest of the season was expected to apply for a medical redshirt. If granted, Calzada would still have 3 years of eligibility left. The surgery was to repair an injury he initially picked up against Auburn last season.

Calzada last summer had the support of then-coach Bryan Harsin, who praised him at SEC Media Days for having a strong work ethic and focus.

The former Texas A&M quarterback battled the shoulder injury throughout practice last spring, but he’s expected to be healthy next spring with his new program.

Calzada’s decision leaves redshirt freshman Robby Ashford and true freshman Holden Geriner as the 2 quarterbacks with any kind of experience on the roster.
