As Trent Dilfer heads to UAB to become its next head coach, the program he’s departing has set its sights on a former Tennessee star.

Lipscomb Academy is zeroing in on Jason Witten to take over for Dilfer, according to FootballScoop.

Dilfer, a former Super Bowl champion quarterback, guided the Nashville program to back-to-back state titles in the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association playoffs.

Meanwhile, Witten is currently the head coach for Liberty Christian School located in Argyle, Texas. During his second season this year, the team captured 10 wins and reached the second round of the playoffs under the former Dallas Cowboys tight end. The 40-year-old Witten is an 11-time Pro Bowler, the Walter Payton Man of the Year, and is in the Texas Sports Hall of fame.

Witten was a First-team All-SEC selection and semifinalist for the John Mackey Tight End Award in 2002 while at Tennessee. Witten was also a member of the Monday Night Football booth for one season in 2018.
