Florida ended the season on Saturday with a 30-3 blowout loss to Oregon State in the Las Vegas Bowl. ESPN’s Greg McElroy believes the defeat will be particularly stinging for Florida coach Billy Napier in the offseason.

Florida finished with a 6-7 record after it dropped 3 straight contests to close out the 2022 campaign. Florida floundered with 219 total yards while it allowed Oregon State to amass 164 rushing yards.

McElroy blasts Florida for the putrid performance.

“This was a bad performance. They had a lot of opt outs. They had guys that did not participate. That’s no excuse,” McElroy said. “It was awful. Billy Napier has a lot of things to address here in the offseason.”

McElroy added that the cliche of bowl games being irrelevant shouldn’t apply to Florida.

“For those that tell me bowl games don’t matter, well meet the 2022 Florida Gators. There are so many questions coming out of that bowl game and I think there’s going to be a lot of uncomfortable moments for Billy Napier over the next 6 or 7 months,” McElroy said. “He’s going to have to address what happened their last time out. That’s not a great place to be.”

Florida will kick off next season with a road contest at Utah on Sep. 2.
