Arik Gilbert is officially headed for the transfer portal. The Georgia tight end revealed the decision on his Twitter account on Dec. 26.

“Thank you to the University of Georgia and all the Dawg fans for your unconditional support,” Gilbert wrote in a note shared to Twitter. “Thank you to all of my coaches and teammates for standing by me over the past two seasons. With every new chapter comes a new opportunity for growth and, after careful consideration, now feels like the right time for me to turn the page. I will be entering the transfer portal for next season.”

Gilbert, who played in just 3 games this season, arrived at Georgia after transferring from LSU. Gilbert had 2 receptions for 16 yards and a touchdown with Georgia in 2022 after not playing in 2021. At LSU, Gilbert earned Freshman All-SEC Team in 2020 honors while catching 35 receptions for 368 yards and 2 TDs.

Coming out of high school, Gilbert was regarded as the No. 5 prospect in the nation, the top tight end in the country and the No. 113 recruit of all time according to the 247Sports Composite.
