One of the most interesting aspects to look at in this year’s national title game clash between the Georgia Bulldogs and the TCU Horned Frogs is the quarterback position. At season’s end, it’s easy to see that both were underrated in different ways.

Georgia signal-caller Stetson Bennett IV, formerly a walk-on, was seen as a player who was more of a game manager than anything else and some questioned his ability to correct decision-making and keep Georgia on the same trajectory. Conversely, TCU’s Max Duggan was virtually an unknown who quickly rose to national attention as both quarterbacks found themselves in the Heisman Trophy conversation.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart and TCU head coach Sonny Dykes recently elaborated upon that with the final game of the year on the horizon.

“It’s made all the difference in the world,” Dykes said of Duggan. “His attitude, the way he’s handled adversity… I think he’s galvanized out football team. Everybody respects him.”

Like Duggan, Bennett didn’t get the initial nod at the start of his career, either, and all that he has accomplished has been earned.

“The stubbornness is who he is,” Smart said of Bennett. “It embodies him. He’s frustrating to deal with at times, he’s very bright and articulate and witty… but you love him for who he is.”

How things shake out between Bennett and Duggan will be something to watch as the pair of teams kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET in SoFi Stadium.
