Zakai Zeigler, Tennessee’s star point guard, suffered an apparent non-contact knee injury during the Vols’ Senior night game against Arkansas Tuesday.

The Vols’ star was driving baseline and threw a pass out to the 3-point line, jumping to avoid going out of bounds. He landed awkwardly on his left knee, falling to the ground in obvious pain. He remained there for about a minute before having to be helped off the court.

A warning for those who do not wish to see injuries:

What this means for Tennessee basketball

Zakai Zeigler is instrumental to what Tennessee basketball does. He’s not Tennessee’s flashiest player, but he leads the backcourt defensively and is a sneaky good scorer. At 5-foot-9, Zeigler is also the team’s top stealer and averages 5.5 assists per game.

He’s also Tennessee’s only real option at point guard. As of the 1st half, Zeigler is still being evaluated by team trainers but has been officially declared out for the remainder of the game.

The only true point guard remaining on the roster is 4-star freshman BJ Edwards, who has only recently started to earn some minutes on the court after Josiah-Jordan James and Julian Phillips missed time due to separate injuries.

For now, Tennessee leads Arkansas as we near halftime.
