Paul Finebaum saw this coming, and was not entirely surprised about the quarterback development at Alabama. And during his regular appearance on “McElroy and Cubelic In the morning” on WJOX out of Birmingham, Alabama, Finebaum put it in perspective.

“Cole, on the quarterback situation, I think we’re exactly where we all thought we would be, in a state of confusion, however, I don’t think this means as much as some on social media are saying that it will,” Finebaum said.

Finebaum recalled how 2 years ago no one saw a national championship for Stetson Bennett as Georgia’s starting quarterback, much less 2 in a row.

“They did it for a lot of other reasons other than the quarterback position,” Finebaum said. “… The quarterback can do you harm, and that’s what you don’t want. That was probably the most negative takeaway from Saturday is it looked like, at least in an initial sampling, that it looked like those 2 could do a little bit of harm. But it looked like ultimately it will get settled, and I think what it will mainly mean is that expectations for Alabama are going to be dialed down just a hair. You already had Alabama below Georgia in the SEC, and probably in the national championship race, and I don’t think much has changed there.”
