Georgia enters the 2023 season as the reigning back-to-back champs of the college football world. Now, Kirby Smart’s program begins a quest for an ultra-rare 3-peat as national champions, but is it a realistic quest or a fool’s errand in Athens?

During the broadcast of the NFL Draft coverage, ESPN’s crew tackled what the Bulldogs need to do to make that 3-peat happen. As for David Pollack, he cited a tougher task for Smart in 2023 of keeping his team motivated and hungry for success.

While returning production is high for the Bulldogs, Pollack pointed to that as challenging for Smart’s motivation of the team. However, he does like Carson Beck at quarterback as a potential superstar and expects Georgia to be back in the College Football Playoff once again.

“It’s gonna be harder than last year,” said Pollack. “Because Kirby got everyone together last season and was like ‘Listen, 15 guys got drafted last year. Jordan Davis ain’t here, Devonte Wyatt ain’t here.’ Now, he’s gonna be like ‘…dang, everybody was here.’

“They return a lot, Carson Beck’s the nex tsuperstar at QB. I think he’s gonna be unbelievable. I think he’ll go to New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony, I think he’s that kind of good. I think their schedule sets up great, I think they’ll get there (to the CFP), but 3 in a row? I don’t know.”

Robert Griffin III expects a bit of newness to challenge the Bulldogs this time around but he echoed similar sentiments as Pollack in regard to his expectations for the year ahead:

“You talk about Carson Beck, they’ve got 8 returners on both sides of the ball. No Stetson Bennett, no Todd Monken so it’ll be a little more difficult because there’s more new this year for Georgia… I’m very excited for this group,” explained Griffin.
