Mississippi State basketball picked up a big-time addition in the transfer portal on Wednesday morning.

The Bulldogs earned a commitment from West Virginia forward transfer Jimmy Bell.

Here’s his announcement:

Bell started 34 games for the Mountaineers last season. He averaged 4.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest while also providing a lot of value on the defensive end of the floor.

He also averaged 0.5 steals and 0.4 blocks per game last season. At 6-foot-10, he will bring immediate length to Mississippi State’s front court next season.

He spent 1 season at West Virginia before transferring. Bell has been somewhat of a journeyman throughout his collegiate career. He began at Saint Louis for 2 seasons before transferring to Moberly Area Community College for 1 year. From there, he ended up in Morgantown and now at Mississippi State.

Mississippi State has already signed 5 freshmen in the class of 2023. That group ranks as the No. 35 recruiting class in the country, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

The Bulldogs will be fighting for their 2nd straight trip to the NCAA Tournament next season.
