It’s not often you see of NFL greats get teary-eyed, but that’s what happened when Fred Taylor joined the NFL Players Second Acts podcast.

Taylor, a former running back, joined former NFL strong safety Roman Harper and former Carolina Panther and Chicago Bear Charles Tillman on the pod. The players got especially emotional when talking about family and being fathers. Taylor wiped away tears when asked about the source of his strength.

“I would say my daughter Natasha. She is the one who initially broke me from, you know, all the knuckleheaded things you would do and decisions you would make without thinking. My first baby girl, and she made me a man.”

Taylor began his career at Florida, where he played under Steve Spurrier. As a senior, Taylor was the team’s leading rusher with 1,292 yards, 214 carries, and 13 touchdowns. He earned a first-team All-SEC title, as well as third-team All-American honors. He finished his college campaign ranked fourth in school history with 3,075 yards and 31 touchdowns.

After a standout college career, Taylor was drafted ninth overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 1998 NFL Draft He played 10 seasons with the Jags before heading to New England for two seasons. Taylor was inducted into the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame and the Georgia Florida Hall of Fame in 2008.
