LSU added a major piece to its 2023 defense on Thursday.

The Tigers picked up a commitment from ex-Marshall safety Andre Sam. This is his 2nd transfer of the offseason as he was briefly committed to Tulane.

Here’s his announcement:

Sam began his collegiate career at McNeese State, first enrolling there back in 2021. He was a two-time all-conference selection during his time with McNeese.

The 2022 campaign was his first with Marshall. He was impressive from Day 1 and finished the year with 53 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 1 interception and 7 pass deflections from the safety position.

His brief transfer to Tulane was likely the result of the departure of defensive coordinator Lance Guidry. Sam played for Guidry at Marshall and then followed him to Tulane this offseason. However, Guidry later left his Tulane for the same role at Miami.

LSU beat out the Canes for Sam’s commitment. He becomes the 14th player to transfer to LSU so far this offseason.
