Patrick Murphy and Alabama have bounced back after a historic and disappointing finish to last year’s season.

Forced into a winner-take-all game seven Sunday at the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional, Alabama’s Ally Shipman blasted the go-ahead home run in the top of the seventh, as Alabama prevailed 1-0 win to send the Crimson Tide to next weekend’s Super Regional round.

No. 5 seed Alabama (43-19) will host No. 12 seed Northwestern. This is the 18th time the Tide has advanced to the Super Regional round since the current postseason format was adopted in 2005 and will be the 13th time Alabama has served as a host, as the Tide won 11 of the previous 12 Super Regional rounds in Tuscaloosa.

After Sunday’s win, Murphy reflected on the last year’s results.

“It feels really good to be back, because it’s almost like that’s where we’re supposed to be,” he said. “You did it for so long, so many years, the only school to play in every single one, except for last year. I felt so lost after regionals last year, I didn’t know what the hell to do. I was like I don’t know what people do now. I’m very happy that we’re back to the next weekend. It’s not going to get any easier, but it just feels like we’re in the right spot. Alabama softball belongs in a super regional.”
