Paul Skenes made an incredible play in the 5th inning of LSU’s opening-round matchup with Tulane on Friday.

Tulane had a runner on 1st with no outs when Jake LaPrairie hit the ball hard up the middle. What could have been another base-runner for the Green Wave turned into a quick double play when Skenes snared the ball from between his legs.

Skenes then flipped the ball to 1st base for a crucial double play. Here’s a replay:

Skenes is arguably the top pitcher in the country and clearly has no problem fielding his position. Entering this weekend, he had an ERA of 1.89 in over 90 innings pitched during the regular season.

It was somewhat of a surprise to see Skenes get the start for Game 1 against Tulane. The Green Wave went 18-40 this season and only reached the postseason thanks to earning an automatic bid via their conference tournament. LSU will likely face stiffer competition — Oregon State or Sam Houston State — on Saturday.

LSU is hoping to make it to the College World Series for the first time since 2017.
