College GameDay will pay homage to Alabama radio legend Eli Gold
College GameDay is headed to Tuscaloosa for the Week 2 showdown between No. 3 Alabama and No. 11 Texas. During this week’s edition of the show, legendary Alabama radio broadcaster Eli Gold is being honored with a feature segment.
The segment called “The Gold Standard” will chronicle Gold’s return to his job after taking a year off due to cancer.
During the teaser, the 69-year-old Gold is profuse in his appreciation to be back in the booth.

“This job is like holding a rare piece of crystal,” Gold said. “I always knew it. It’s now been reinforced…Football is upon us and that’s the best medicine I could’ve had.”
The Brooklyn, New York native has been a member of the Crimson Tide Sports Network since 1988. Gold is a 4-time recipient of the Alabama Sportscaster of the Year award and captured the Chris Schenkel Award in 2019.
Alabama vs. Texas in slated for Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. EST and will be televised on ESPN.
