John J. Tigert
John J. Tigert spent three seasons as a college football coach in the early 1900’s, including two seasons as the head coach at the University of Kentucky from 1915-1916. Tigert’s teams finished 6-1-1 and 4-1-2 in his two seasons as head coach, bringing his overall record at UK to 10-2-3. Tigert was 1-2-1 in his only other season as a football coach at Kentucky Wesleyan in 1910. He coached UK’s women’s basketball team for five seasons between 1911 1917, and served as UK’s athletic director from 1913-1917. Tigert also served as the President of the University of Florida, and passed away in 1965 at the age of 82.
