The second week of the season is in the books for the SEC and what a week for the SEC West. Every team within the division got a victory yesterday and the SEC West continues to be arguably the best division in all of college football.

Here’s what we learned about them from Week 2 in the SEC.

Alabama Crimson Tide

Week 2 result: Defeated Florida Atlantic, 41-0

What we learned: Another week, another win for the Crimson Tide. This week’s opponent wasn’t exactly challenging, but it was an opportunity for Alabama to possibly figure things out at quarterback. Blake Sims had another good game, throwing for 214 yards and two touchdowns. Backup Jacob Coker finally got his chance to show what he could do under center. And well…it’s definitely still an interesting situation. Coker finished the day with 15-of-24 passing for 204 yards and one touchdown. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw both again next week against Southern Miss.

In other news, Amari Cooper is the best wide receiver in college football and Lane Kiffin has proven he’ll get the ball to him every chance he can. Defensively, with the return of cornerback Eddie Jackson and linebacker Trey DePriest, things went much better for Kirby Smart and the rest of the defense. Alabama won’t be tested again though until the Florida Gators come to town on Sept. 20.

Arkansas Razorbacks

Week 2 result: Defeated Nicholls State, 73-7

What we learned: Honestly, even with a record-setting blowout against Nicholls State, can we really say we learned anything of significance about the Razorbacks this weekend? Clearly, the Colonels did not deserve to be on the same field as Arkansas and were incredibly outmatched. However, after losing 10 games in a row, just being able to celebrate a win has got to be a huge relief for Bret Bielema and his squad.

The Hogs move on to face Texas Tech in Lubbock. If they can pull out a win on the road, that should be a huge momentum swing for the Razorbacks as they move closer to the heart of their SEC schedule.

Auburn Tigers

Week 2 result: Defeated San Jose State, 59-13

What we learned: Auburn can still run the ball. A lot. The Tigers finished the game with 358 yards on the ground and 11 yards away from having three rushers with at least 100 yards. Defensively, Auburn still has question marks. They did well against the run last night, but still looked vulnerable to the air attack and some big plays. The offense is there, it’ll just be a matter of if the defense can match it.

LSU Tigers

Week 2 result: Defeated Sam Houston State, 56-0

What we learned: The quarterback situation is still kind of iffy for the Tigers. Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris saw playing time yesterday against Sam Houston State and both played well. Jennings is definitely a better passer than Harris, but with the kind of athleticism Harris can bring to the quarterback position, it’ll be tough for Les Miles to keep him off the field too. Travin Dural looks to be the real deal, adding another three touchdowns and 140 yards to his 2014 stats. He’s essentially surpassed his production from a year ago in just two games.

As usual LSU’s defense was dominant and it appears that the Tigers will be a top competitor in the SEC once again, despite the bevy of underclassmen playing. LSU has another game before having to deal with Mississippi State on Sept. 20. Until then, let’s see if LSU can get the quarterback situation ironed out.

Oh and we also learned Leonard Fournette thinks he’s a big deal.

Mississippi State Bulldogs

Week 2 result: Defeated UAB, 47-34

What we learned: This weekend was a little rockier for Mississippi State. Their secondary was exposed by an less-than impressive UAB squad as the Blazers scored three touchdowns on passing plays of 75 yards or more. Dak Prescott and Josh Robinson led the ground game, rushing for 235 yards and two touchdowns. Passing-wise, Prescott completed less than half of his passes, so he’ll need to improve in that area if he wants defenses to respect him as a quarterback.

Overall, Mississippi State showed some weaknesses this week. Dan Mullen will need to get some of these guys back on track before traveling to LSU in two weeks and we’ll need to temper our expectations of Mississippi State until then.

Ole Miss Rebels

Week 2 result: Defeated Vanderbilt, 41-3

What we learned: Ole Miss simply took care of business against Vanderbilt yesterday. Probably the most encouraging sign was that quarterback Bo Wallace did not turn the ball over and looked sharp virtually all game. The defense continues to dominate for the Rebels, led by senior safety Cody Prewitt.

As long as good Bo Wallace shows up week in and week out, the Rebels stand a much better chance of reaching the SEC Championship Game. Bad Bo Wallace makes things much more difficult when teams like Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M line up across from the Rebels.

Texas A&M Aggies

Week 2 result: Defeated Lamar 73-7

What we learned: Yikes, the Aggies can score a lot of points. It was another high-scoring effort from Kenny Hill as the sophomore added to his video game-like numbers with 283 passing yards and another four touchdowns. It’s becoming increasingly obvious that Texas A&M’s offense will be one of the best in the country. As long as the defense can remain steady, the Aggies are a real threat to the likes of Auburn, Alabama and LSU this season.
