Part of what makes the SEC the premier conference in the country is the campus atmosphere.

On campuses from Knoxville to Tuscaloosa, Gainesville to College Station, RVs and fans begin to descend on SEC campuses on Wednesday and Thursday and will hang around until Sunday. (I’m not sure who can take two or three days off work, but apparently a lot of SEC fans can which makes them even more great.)

At SDS, not only do we want to have you covered on the field, but we also want to keep you informed off the field. SEC fans cook up some of the best tailgating spreads you’ll ever see, and we’ll give you an idea or recipe each week for you to enjoy leading up to kickoff on Saturday.

Courtesy of the folks at Southern Living, here are a few tailgating eats sure to please:

Flank Steak Sandwiches with “Go Big Blue” Cheese
University of Kentucky

Big Blue Nation will be ready to go after downing these delicious steak sandwiches marinated in olive oil and pepper covered in blue cheese, red peppers and sweet onions. You can find the recipe and preparation guide here.

Big Easy Gumbo
LSU

If you’ve been to Baton Rouge and have never had Louisiana Gumbo, you’re not living life. Tiger fans arguably know how to tailgate better than any other fan base in the SEC, something they pride themselves in. You can get the recipe here.

Ole Miss Mud Brownies

If I ever find these on The Grove, look out. A great tailgating feast is not complete without dessert. Rebel fans know. Here’s the recipe.

The Twelfth Man’s Wings
Texas A&M

A&M’s the newcomer to the conference, but they’re doing pretty much everything right including food. Look at those wings … dang. Football fans almost always love wings, and if yours look like those above, you’re going to have the most popular tailgate. You can find the recipe here.

Over-the-Moon Vandy Pudding
Vanderbilt

The Commodores haven’t looked very good on the field, but goodness gracious that marshmallow sandwich dessert looks unbelievable. Made from vanilla pudding mix, chocolate-marshmallow sandwiches, bananas and a whipped topping, this is an easy dessert option ready to go in a couple of hours. Here’s the recipe.
