On the recruiting trail, you often hear tales of how important it is for coaches to woo a player’s parents. Several SEC coaches are apparently at opposite ends of that spectrum.

ESPN’s Brett McMurphy conducts a weekly poll of coaches, and this past week asked all 128 FBS head honchos what coach they would want their sons playing for.

Georgia’s Mark Richt came in tied atop the results, receiving eight percent of the vote along with Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops. Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin received four percent of the vote, and Hugh Freeze of Ole Miss and Auburn’s Gus Malzahn both received two percent. Tennessee’s Butch Jones and South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier both came in at one percent.

Surprisingly, two of the most successful coaches in the conference were left out entirely: Alabama’s Nick Saban and LSU’s Les Miles. Neither coach appeared anywhere in the survey. One can only guess as to why Saban and Miles’ coaching brethren wouldn’t want their kids suiting up for either coach, but the two SEC West rivals must have rubbed the rest of the coaching world wrong somewhere along the way.
