Here are some quick thoughts from Mizzou’s 31-27 loss to Indiana.

What It Means: This changes everything. Rather than playing as a potential Top 15 team next week with the chance to move to 5-0 as the SEC East frontrunner, Missouri now is a 3-1 team with lots of question marks. The offensive line in particular tanked against IU’s weak duckling defense, and MU’s trajectory now has flattened to seven or eight wins.

What I Liked: Particularly in the first half, Maty Mauk made chicken salad out of … not much. MU answered 10 consecutive IU points with 10 of its own. Charles Harris got a sack playing in place of an injured Markus Golden.

What I Didn’t Like: Indiana dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Missouri’s 47-game streak of forcing a turnover ended. Heck, the Tigers, 15-2 since the start of last season, lost to an 0-2 Big Ten team at home as a 14.5-point favorite.

Missouri gave up a 100-yard rusher for the third time in four games this season. Tevin Coleman fought through some sort of leg issue to finish with 189 yards of total offense. The Tigers’ pass rush fell off in a big way without Golden. Evan Boehm’s snaps were high all game, and Mauk’s passes in the second half sailed high as well. Granted, he was under pressure on nearly every down.

Who’s The Man: Bud Sasser. Sure, Russell Hansbrough had two long runs, and Andrew Baggett made the game-winning field goal. But Sasser was the only consistent piece to this offense all game.

Key Play: The officials called Kenya Dennis for pass interference on an incomplete pass. The situation: fourth-and-6 at the Indiana 29 with less than two minutes left. The call bailed out Indiana and the Hoosiers drove for a three-yard D’Angelo Roberts touchdown with 22 seconds left.

What’s Next: Missouri (3-1) must travel to South Carolina. If the Gamecocks can take care of Vanderbilt tonight, they’ll be 3-1 with two SEC East wins.
